Troon Challenge Finals Archive

The 2011 Troon Challenge National Finals were contested at Troon North Golf Club August 27-28, 2011. 36 teams from Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii and Texas took to the course to try and seize national championships in both Gross and Net divisions.

In the Gross division, David Kondzich and Andy Adudell, qualifiers at the Golf Club of Estrella, got off to a quick start and posted a first round 65 to take a one shot lead heading into Sunday. Four teams were within three shots of the lead after day one. Heading into day two, players knew that it was going to take another low score to take home the title, and teams did just that. Andy Dannewitz and Brian Richmeier, qualifiers at The Ridge and Skip Van Meter and Jim Alger, qualifiers at Maderas Golf Club, shot 63 and 62 respectively to end with a two day total of 129, outdoing the first round leaders of Kondzich and Adudell by one shot. In the end, the team of Dannewitz and Richmeier claimed the 2011 Troon Challenge National Championship in the Gross division after winning a scorecard playoff.

In the Net division, Jill Gallagher and Talon Littrell, qualifiers at the Golf Club of Estrella and Jeff Holmes and Devin Bland, qualifiers at Kierland Golf Club, paced the field after day one with first round 65’s. Six other teams were all within two shots of the lead. Day two proved to be a fierce battle until the end with the last few holes proving to be the difference maker. The team of Jeff Holmes and Devin Bland closed strong shooting a second round 61 for a two day total of 126 claiming the 2011 Troon Challenge National Championship in the Net division by three strokes over two other teams.

The 2010 Troon Challenge National Finals were contested at Troon North Golf Club on August 28-29, 2010. Callaway Golf and American Hole 'n One combined efforts to create an exciting and memorable championship. Competition was fierce as 27 teams battled it out over two days to claim the title of 2010 Troon Challenge National Champions!

In the Gross divison, Thomas Renli and Jeff Koprivetz, qualifiers from Classic Club shot an opening round 62 which was good for a one shot lead over David Koski and John Hayes qualifiers at Yocha Dehe Golf Club and Brett Martin and John Urquhart qualifiers at The Phoenician. Sunday got off to a blistering start as the teams of Renli/Koprivetz and Martin/Urqhart fired 29 and 30 respectively on the front nine holes of the Monument course. The trend continued on the back nine and at the end of the day, Renli/Koprivetz claimed the 2010 Troon Challenge National Championship by one shot over Martin/Urquhart with a two-day total of 126.

In the Net division, Tom Egan and Pete Conforto, qualifiers at Ocotillo Golf Resort, opened up play with a solid first round 62 which was good enough for a two shot lead over Chuck Kennedy and Rich Zacher who qualified at The Phoenician and fired a first round 64. Come Sunday morning, the race for Net Division champion was wide open with plenty of teams still in the hunt. At the end of day one, Bob Wood and Joel Temple, qualifiers from Golf Club of Estrella, found themselves 6 shots back of the leaders. Sunday proved to be a different story for this team as they came back strong and fired a bogey-free round of 61 to claim the 2010 Troon Challenge Net division title by one shot over four other teams with a two-day total of 130.

The 2009 Troon Challenge National Finals were contested at Troon North Golf Club on August 29-30, 2009. With the support of Callaway Golf, contestants competed over two days for some great prizes and were treated to a fun and memorable weekend.

In the Gross divison, Steven Blackford and Joe Fox who qualified for the Finals at Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, AZ, opened up strong with a first round 64 that featured only one bogey combined with 6 birdies and an eagle to lead two other teams by 2 shots. Sunday proved to be another great day for the team of Blackford and Fox as they again matched their first round 64 this time with a bogey free round that featured 8 birdies and 10 pars. Blackford and Fox won the 2009 Troon Challenge "Gross" division Championship by 4 shots over Duane Miller and Kevin Knox who qualified for the Finals at Teravista Golf Club in Austin, TX.

In the Net division, Russ Watson and Kyle Nelson who qualified for the Finals at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, AZ opened up strong with a first round 60 to lead by two shots. Sunday proved to be a pivotal day for those teams trying to claim the 2009 Troon Challenge "Net" division Championship. Clay Scagnoli and Michael Scagnoli who qualified for the Finals at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ who opened up with a first round 63, stayed strong and shot a final round 62 to over take the first round leaders of Watson and Nelson and win the "Net" divison Championship by 1 shot over Steve Singer and Jim Hubbard who qualified for the Finals at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ.

The 2008 Troon Challenge Finals were contested on August 23-24 on the highly acclaimed Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas, NV. With the help of Callaway Golf and American Hole in One, contestants were treated to a great weekend and walked away with many memories from the event.

In the Gross Division, Jonas DeWitte and Jason Guptill who qualified for the Finals at the Harmony Golf Preserve, found themselves deadlocked with Mike Rose and James Salerno who qualified at The Revere Golf Club with two day totals of 135. Two playoff holes were needed as Jonas DeWitte and Jason Guptill claimed the 2008 Troon Challenge "Gross" division Championship with a birdie on the second playoff hole.

In the Net Division, David Hwang and Nick Han who qualified at the Badlands Golf Club played their way to a first round eight under par 64 to lead three other teams by two shots going into the final round on Sunday. Sunday proved to be a repeat for Hwang and Han who shot 64 again to win the 2008 Troon Challenge "Net" division Championship by 2 shots over Talon Littrell and Jill Gallagher who qualified for the Finals at Golf Club of Estrella.

The 2007 Troon Challenge Finals were contested on September 15-16 at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, AZ. With the help of Callaway Golf and American Hole in One, contestants were treated to a great weekend and walked away with many memories from the event.
