Strategic solutions for today's golf businesses.

Strategic solutions for today's golf businesses.

Troon® started as one facility in 1990 and has since grown to become the largest third party manager of golf and Club operations in the world. Founded by current CEO Dana Garmany, Troon has built its success one client at a time-by listening to and understanding our client's challenges and customizing our resources to overcome them. All this is done from a foundation of providing the best talent and resources in the industry, by out working our competition, and by cultivating the creativity of our associates.

Troon is a true third party manager as we do not lease or own any of the facilities to which we provide services. We have three primary divisions: Troon Golf®, which is responsible for the operations of our Daily Fee and Resort facilities; Honours Golf®, which is a collection of resort and private facilities and which is strategically headquartered in the Southeast; and Troon Privé®, which is charged with the operations of our Private Clubs. These three divisions are supported by 11 corporate departments - Golf Operations, Agronomy, Food & Beverage, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources, Procurement, Finance and Accounting, Design & Development, Risk Management, Information Technology, and Legal. Troon International golf facilities, located in countries outside U.S. borders, are afforded the same superior management services as Troon-managed facilities located within the continental United States. Pure Golf®, an alternative Troon brand, offers a business solution for smaller scale golf facilities in need of professional management services.

These resources combined with more than 25 years of experience operating a myriad of private, daily fee, and resort operations in states and countries all over the world, have given Troon the opportunity to develop the strategies and talent that allow our clients to excel in the competitive world of golf and club operations. Discover additional information below to learn more about what it means to be a part of the Troon family and see how our team can go to work for you!

We invite you to contact the Troon Business Development Team by calling 1.888.807.0002 or completing the adjacent form.

Management Services
Troon Management Services
Today, the once-traditional notion that a quality golf experience is defined solely by the condition of the golf course's playing surfaces is outdated. While Troon® believes that superior agronomic conditioning is paramount, we realize that excellent guest service and satisfaction is achieved on many levels. It is an outstanding food and beverage experience - it is warm and well trained service consistently delivered - it is immaculately clean public spaces - it is the execution of the smallest details.

For our clients, satisfaction means proactive sales & marketing strategies that deliver results, stringent back-office procedures that insure proper controls, procurement programs that offer significant savings, financial & accounting systems that provide accurate procedures, along with timely and honest personal communication about the status of the facilities and the industry overall.

In order to exceed the expectations of both the internal and external guest, the more than 120 associates at Troon's Corporate Headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona are charged with enhancing the performance of our properties across 11 core competencies. No other golf or Club management company can offer this level of in-house industry expertise. These core competencies include:

Golf Operations: One of the pillars that launched the company in 1990, Troon continues to refine its industry best practices as gained from experiences in the field across various operating platforms in countries all over the world. These best practices are shared amongst our properties in rapid fashion so that answers to the challenges of this ever changing industry are quickly assimilated. Troon is the largest employer of PGA Golf Professionals in the country and strives to marry innovation with the values and traditions of the game.

Agronomy: Lead by Jeff Spangler, Troon's Senior Vice President of Science of Agronomy, we truly believe that agronomic conditions are a critical component of the customer experience and subsequently to customer loyalty. Troon continues to refine its agronomic practices to insure that our teams produce a product that is fiscally responsible, operationally sustainable, and appealing to golfers of all skill levels - all in a way that efficiently conforms to the financial framework of our clients.

Food & Beverage: Troon's dedicated corporate F&B team, led by Vice President of Food & Beverage, John Bartilomo, is focused on driving food and beverage profitability at our properties by marrying effective sales & marketing with exceptional products and service with stringent back office controls. By focusing on these three aspects of the F&B operation, Troon continues to surpass its competition and to gain market share in this very competitive arena.

Sales and Marketing: Troon's Sales & Marketing team assists with local marketing, but focuses primarily on delivering golfers, hotel guests, and members from both a regional and national level.

Human Resources: The HR team at Troon administers all aspects of employee management. Recruiting, training, hiring, workers' compensation, compliance, and benefit administration are just some of the duties performed by this team for the more than 10,000 Troon associates world-wide.

Procurement: Lead by Vice President of Procurement, Charlene Gallob, Troon continues to source the best pricing on services, goods, and equipment from our most sought after vendors. Feedback from the field about purchase trends and patterns help the corporate team target companies and formulate programs that provide impactful savings to our clients.

Finance & Accounting: Nearly 1/3 of the corporate team is devoted to the proper and timely management of property financials and payroll. Lead by Troon's Chief Financial Officer, Ruth Engle, the clients are not only well informed, but also compliant in all necessary areas of the operation.

Design & Development: Troon's in-house design team can assist in any form of Clubhouse or golf course redesign or construction. Its team of engineers, designers, and decorators make sure that building projects are well managed, deliver the most "bang for the buck," and produce the desired results.

Risk Management: Troon has the ability to leverage its large portfolio and negotiate rates for health, property, and casualty insurance far below what properties can garner on their own. Our team continues to investigate better and more favorable insurance options on behalf of our clients.

Information Technology: Troon's IT department insures that each property has secured, functional, and applicable technology at the best price possible. If on our platform, most property IT issues can be handled remotely from Scottsdale - thus saving time and money having to use a third party IT provider. Partnering with industry leaders such as Jonas, EZLinks, Oracle, and IMAVEX allow us to deliver consistent and economical IT solutions across a variety of operating environments.

Legal: Many times properties are left on their own in terms of legal matters - forcing either to "trust" vendor contracts and agreements or hire expensive external council to review. Troon services include having our legal team review documents and contracts to ensure that the property's best interests are being looked after.

Troon Privé - For Private Clubs

Troon Privé - For Private Clubs

Our Promise

Every member of the Troon Privé team brings a collaborative spirit and a competitive passion for elevating the success of our private club clients. Our success as a team is defined by our ability to create value while guiding our clients toward the improvements they seek in their resort and/or hospitality services, including food and beverage, all to achieve a new vision. This endeavor inspires us to draw upon our collective, specialized, intellectual resources, and provide creative solutions for each club we serve.

Troon Privé
We believe that many private clubs feel a need to change in order to stay relevant and be successful, yet find themselves stalled by a "this is the way we've always done it" environment that inhibits creativity and accountability.

We believe that both developer owners and member boards, despite well-intentioned direction, continue to get disappointing results from the same traditional self-managed approach to today’s complex challenges.

We believe that a collaborative third party approach to club management is a competitive advantage for private clubs.

At Troon Privé, we are driven to elevate the success of our private club clients.

We are the alternative to consultants who diagnose, but don’t implement. We do not purchase or lease our clients’ business, and then tell them to get out of the way. We work alongside our clients in a collaborative mindset for as long as it takes. We contribute our extensive and proven record of success, and ensure individuality by seamlessly integrating our balanced approach into each club’s distinct culture and valued traditions. We inspire our on-site leadership teams to drive improvement by providing clear goals and the resources necessary to meet objectives. From our vantage point, we are able to share proprietary systems and internal best practices that support, reinforce and guide our clubs on an ongoing and consistent basis. On behalf of our clients, we reignite private clubs – making them relevant, healthy, and sustainable – by delivering strong, cohesive leadership and a distinct competitive advantage resulting in membership retention and growth.

We live our promise every day, and our clients have discovered that this promise helps them to achieve the success they envision. Since 2001, we have been honored to elevate more than 100 clubs on behalf of our clients, and have since become the largest third-party private club management company in the world grown solely from our clients’ success, rather than through acquisition.

Your Club... Our Promise

Troon Philosophy: A commitment to maximize an owner's return on investment is our gateway to establishing a relationship; the ability to maximize owner profitability year after year is our means to strengthen that relationship.
Troon Operations
Troon possesses a tremendous wealth of operational expertise, yet it welcomes owner involvement and scrutiny in all phases of its operation. Troon's corporate office provides operational oversight and expertise, and offers centralized coordination of accounting, payroll, financial reporting and human resources administration, which ultimately leads to substantial cost savings.

Troon's sophisticated training programs embrace Troon's quality standards and operating procedures, ensuring the development of associates capable to delivering the Troon Experience. Troon's national purchasing programs enable owners to receive the benefit of group buying power on hundreds of items for the golf course, golf shop and food and beverage areas, and enables them to do so without sacrificing quality. Troon realizes that running a successful operation includes identifying and capitalizing on revenue-generating opportunities while controlling expenses. To do this, Troon constantly analyzes operating performance with a view toward achieving an owner's financial goals.

Troon Philosophy: Our constant commitment to achieving agronomic excellence by utilizing and improving upon reliable, proven techniques enables us to create the most celebrated playing surfaces in the world.
Troon Agronomy
For Troon, course conditioning is a daily, time-consuming effort focused on achieving an optimal visual appearance while maintaining excellent turf health. Troon's proprietary scientific approach to agronomy encourages the use of organic, nature-friendly compounds and prudent chemical use to achieve those goals at the most reasonable cost.

All of these efforts are designed to maximize revenues by offering superlative playing surfaces amid beautiful settings to golfers willing to pay a premium for their golf experience. Not surprisingly, Troon-managed courses are frequently rated "best conditioned" by leading golf industry publications.
Sales & Marketing

Sales & Marketing

Troon Philosophy: The power of the Troon brand, combined with creative, innovative sales and marketing efforts, are key components of profitability.
Troon Sales & Marketing
Troon's brand-building efforts have had a uniquely powerful impact on golfers, as Troon's marketing experts have developed a database of millions of golfers - about 10% of all the golfers in the U.S. - that is designed to target them with a precision and depth of reach unequaled in the industry. Troon's brand identity is reinforced by the numerous national and regional advertisements that regularly appear in top national golf publications and press releases.

Troon also utilizes customized public relations, advertising, and targeted email campaigns for individual golf facilities geared to capture the local market. Frequency-based marketing efforts such as Troon Rewards, golf's premier loyalty program, as well as the Troon Card, and Troon Advantage, all serve to maximize revenues at facilities in the Troon portfolio. Troon's centralized reservation system (1.888.TROON U.S.) ensures a reliable, cost-effective method for booking tee times. These sophisticated sales and marketing techniques enable Troon to grasp an enormous market share, translating into a higher probability of financial success.
Design & Development

Design & Development

Troon Philosophy: Our ability to assist owners in building championship, award-winning golf courses represents one of our best opportunities to solidify owner relationships and pave the way toward profitability.
Troon Design & Development
Throughout every phase of design, development and construction, Troon has the capability and expertise to assist owners by working directly with golf course designers and clubhouse architects, and all other professionals involved in the development process. In the area of construction, where each delay typically results in lost time and added costs, Troon's team of architectural and design experts scrutinizes every detail of every phase of development, enabling them to recognize opportunities for keeping costs to a minimum and staying within approved budgets. From the initial design stage through the final sign-off on each component, Troon's involvement includes extensive budget planning and analysis, implementation of cost controls, and frequent reviews of site, clubhouse, maintenance and other building plans. The end result is a golf facility that, from beginning to end, was designed and constructed bearing in mind the owner's ultimate objective.
Food & Beverage

Food & Beverage

Troon Philosophy: A great dining experience is the perfect accompaniment to the game of golf - for golfers, for spectators and for those who simply enjoy the pleasure of dining amid an atmosphere of stylish comfort and quality.
Troon Food & Beverage
Troon has been successful in dispelling the notion that a snack bar, combined with on-course food and beverage, is all that is required to satisfy a golfer's food and beverage needs. Times have changed, and today the ability to offer a wide variety of upscale fare, in addition to traditional snack bar selections, is now a standard in the golf industry. Superb cuisine, fine wines from around the world, an extensive selection of domestic and foreign beers, and of course, great cigars are now standard at Troon-managed golf facilities.

Troon's formula for success in the area of golf course food and beverage includes extensive corporate office oversight and control. Through delivering superior service, diverse menu selections and comprehensive food and beverage programs, owners are discovering that the ability to offer upscale fare provides yet another opportunity to generate increased revenues.
Management Myths

Management Myths

Troon understands that there are many questions and concerns associated with third party management. Many times these concerns swirl around inaccuracies as to what operating as a Troon facility means. We have outlined the most frequently addressed concerns below and welcome an opportunity to answer any other questions you may have regarding our services.

1. Domination Myth - "Troon is going to come in and run things the way they want to..."

TRUTH - As stated before, We ARE NOT an owner or a lessee - we are agents of the Owner, Membership, or Board of Directors. We are similar to a stand-alone GM only on a larger platform with greater resources. We find ways to do what your facility wants to do more effectively and efficiently.

2. Brand Myth - "Troon is going to put their brand everywhere and we are going to
lose our Club's identity."

TRUTH - Your facility can choose to use our brand as much or as little as they wish - we just believe that it's nice to have a choice.

3. Employee Myth - "Troon is going to come in and fire all the staff."

TRUTH - Should the property's employees be on our employment platform, our intention is not to fire anyone - we want leaders at every level of the organization, and those who are excited about quality, professionalism, career opportunities, and accountability will do very well. Performers love to be held accountable!

4. Cost Myth - "Troon is too expensive."

TRUTH - The fact of the matter is we are net positive in nearly all our management contracts when you consider cost saving in benefits, insurance, procurement, operational efficiencies, and associate retention before revenues are even considered. Troon's ability to consistently grow over the last 20+ years is a testament to being able to deliver financial results to our clients and show value for our fees.

5. Too Big Myth - "Troon is so big, we are going to get lost in the system and not
get personalized attention."

TRUTH - The idea that a smaller company with fewer resources gives better and more individualized attention is contradictory. The simple fact is our scale is such that we can devote more diversified resources - not less- even as we add additional properties.

6. Failure Myth - "We have failed in some way because we are considering outside management."

TRUTH - Organizations have relied on outside expertise for decades to manage areas of their business in which they do not have a core competency. The most progressive and successful Clubs in the country have realized this and have sought objective, third party management services. There is no shame in being open to innovation.

Club & Resort Business Magazine, April 2014

This made all the difference, Club Members Claudette Halpern and Miles Weigold say, as part of a change in attitude that they saw from the moment Troon came on board. "The most important thing for me were the steps they [Troon] took to instill a positive future for The Gallery," says Halpern. "It was clear right from day one that they wanted the members to be proud of their club and to take an active role in helping it get back to where it had been." The staff is always available now, Weigold says. "The change is palpable," he says. "Not only do they listen to the members, they also take both proactive and reactive steps when and where they are necessary." [Read Full Article]

"Let me give you a thumbnail update of El Macero CC after 1 year:

1. Our course is in much better condition.
2. We are saving about $20,000 a month in expenses compared to last year.
3. Our management (all replaced at our choice over the last year) is much better.
4. Our employees are much more cordial and friendly.
5. We are saving just in "food and beverage" (compared to last year) enough to pay for two Troon Golf management fees.
6. Our recent survey found that 96% of our members thought Troon was doing a good job.
7. We have added 31 proprietary members and 19 social members this year. One of our best years ever. Especially in a recessionary year.

One of the easiest years ever for a club board, and especially a Club President."

-Bill Kidd, Club President at El Macero Country Club

From the great concierge team to the outstanding kitchen staff to the skilled maintenance team, Troon's efforts exemplify quality and focus on customer service. "Troon Golf continues to provide all of the owners at The Rocks a 'First Class' experience and exceed our expectations! It is clear to us that the staff truly understands what Real Hospitality is all about and delivers consistently with over the top service!

The cross over benefits that Troon Golf provides us, (access to some great golf) is also unmatched in today's market!

One of the best decisions we have made at the club was to engage Troon Golf."

-Steven Rosen, V.P. Operations for Exclusive Resorts, LLC
