Troon Talk

Golf course management is a business that varies from country to country and from state to state and requires specialised skills, knowledge and expertise.

The science of turf growth and maintenance is one of the most scrutinized jobs around particularly in these times with drought and now floods. As well managing the expectations of developers and owners of golf facilities requires prudent financial management. Importantly though is the customer whether it be the member, their guest or the daily fee golfer who has sought out the course to play for whatever reason. These are the people who keep the turnstiles moving and in marketers eyes are the most important determinant for commercial success.

Australia is a golf rich country with the 3rd most number of golf courses per capita in the world behind only Scotland and New Zealand. With this statistic in mind we are all spoilt for choice and with golf affordable and widely accessible it is no surprise that we produce so many great golfers particularly in this day and age.

Next time you visit a Troon managed golf course spare a thought for the time, effort and dedication that the team spend to make your experience one to remember. Hopefully if we are doing our job properly it will be a memorable experience for all the right reasons. We invite your feedback through the comment cards that are available or alternatively feel free to express your views via our website.

Kooindah Waters is fast becoming the jewel on the Central Coast with its highly playable golf course and friendly customer service orientated approach to managing the golf club.

The Club recently celebrated its first birthday with design consultant Craig Parry attending the day on Thursday 3rd May. Since opening last year the golf course has received a number of accolades and awards including being rated Australia's No.21 public access course by Golf Australia magazine.

In December Kooindah Waters is scheduled to open the Resort comprising the 80 room hotel and spa. It should be a great addition to the Central Coast of New South Wales and to followers of Troon Golf facilities.

Golf courses are unique as they are all different. Some have the distinction of being great tournament venues like Augusta National or Pebble Beach; others have tremendous history and reverence such as St. Andrews whilst others are part of a cluster that mean golfers and golf groups can play and stay for several days and jam in as much golf and socialising as possible.

In Australia the two most popular destinations have been the Gold Coast and in recent times the Mornington Peninsula. The Melbourne sandbelt is also an area where most would choose but not everyone can get access to the majority of the premier private clubs.

If you are traveling and looking for new venues try the courses under Troon's management in NSW including Kooindah Waters and Pacific Dunes. For golfers contemplating an overseas golfing holiday aside from the USA, Scotland or Ireland we can recommend Dubai as one of the new hot spots. The Montgomerie, Dubai is a must see and play location. For details go to www.themontgomerie.com
